Silent Key: Robert J. Michael, N3FA (1948-2016)

January 31, 2016

Robert J. Michael, 67, of Pringle passed away on Sunday at the emergency room in Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.

He was born in Wilkes-Barre, son of Dorothy Chacko Michael, Swoyersville and the late Peter Michael. Prior to his retirement he was a mechanic at Procter and Gamble. He was a parishioner and Usher of Holy Family Parish, Luzerne.

Bob loved traveling and camping. He enjoyed taking extended vacations and touring the country from his camper at an expedited pace. He disliked planes, tour groups, air conditioning the neighborhood, and cats. He loved learning how to do everything for himself, so he wouldn’t have to pay extra. The only thing he loved more than proudly clinging to his guns and religion was growing antennas in the backyard for his neighbors to enjoy. On that note, he was also an overactive member of the Murgas Amature Radio Club, and enjoyed being knee deep in every contest, emergency drill, and hamfest they had.

He is survived by his wife the former Susan Mayewski; sons, Robert, Jr. and wife Sharon, Harding; Steven Michael, Wyoming; daughter Deborah Keller and husband Brian, Plymouth; grandchildren Christy, Brittney, Jonathan Michael and sister, Jean Michael, Swoyersville.

Funeral will be held on Thursday at 9:30 am from the Betz-Jastremski Funeral Home, Inc. 568 Bennett St. Luzerne, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am in Holy Family Parish, Luzerne, with Rev. Joseph Elston. Interment will be in St. John Nepomucene Cemetery, Courtdale. Friends may call on Wednesday from 5-8 pm.
